Creating an F-gas balance

What an F-gas balance is, which data you need and how F-Register supports refrigerant records in kg and CO2-equivalent.

An F-gas balance shows where refrigerant comes from, where it goes and which stock remains available. For HVAC/R companies it is an important part of the administration around refrigerants, installations, cylinders and work orders.

In F-Register the balance is not treated as a separate spreadsheet. It is built from daily registration: cylinders, work orders, charging, recovery, disposal and stock corrections.

What should an F-gas balance contain?

A practical F-gas balance contains at least:

Kilograms and CO2-equivalent

The balance is usually maintained in kilograms. For F-gases, CO2-equivalent is also relevant and is calculated using the GWP value:

CO2-equivalent = refrigerant amount in kg × GWP / 1000

This shows both the amount of refrigerant moved administratively and the climate impact of the registered amount.

Why cylinder administration matters

Without current cylinder administration, errors quickly appear:

  • a technician takes a cylinder and returns it later with a different content;
  • refrigerant is temporarily recovered and later reused;
  • a recovery cylinder contains old or contaminated refrigerant;
  • a correction is made without a cause;
  • purchase or disposal documents are missing.

F-Register therefore links cylinder transactions to users, work orders, installations, invoices and correction reasons.
